Doug Ellis, a textile engineer, is the retired CEO of Southern Mills, Inc. Flying has been his passion for over fifty years. He and his little plane “Cricket” have landed in every one of the lower forty-eight states and every airport in Georgia. At the age of 19, Doug acquired his first pilot’s license through the Aviation Club while he was a student at Georgia Tech and furthered his education by graduating from Princeton University.
After being trained by excellent instructors, and earning his instrument rating, Doug began to conduct private flights. In retirement, he flies for Angel Flight Soars, Inc., and his goal is to fly a mission each week. Doug has assisted with over two hundred missions to or from medical treatment. Doug remains involved in the United Way, the Boy Scouts, the Westminster Schools, and the PATH Foundation. He and his wife Florida are active in Atlanta's First Presbyterian Church and have three daughters and eight grandchildren.
