On Tuesday, June 30, several members of the Rotary Club of Marietta Metro met to complete two Community Service projects on behalf of the club. First, 140 goody bags were filled with savory and sweet snacks and delivered to the Marietta Police Department for distribution to their officers as a show of appreciation for their commitment to our safety, and for their sacrifices and service. Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy welcomed us with the promise that the bags would be distributed to all officers. Second, as part of our club’s commitment to preventing Human Trafficking, over 1,000 bars of soap were labeled with a sticker showing an emergency contact number, which victims could hopefully call to reach a rescuer. This project is in cooperation with a program called S.O.A.P. (Saving our Adolescents from Prostitution). Their representatives will distribute the soap bars to hotels throughout the Atlanta area. Many thanks to the assembly team, and specially to Sally Platt for preparing the goody bags and “thank you” message for the police officers, and to Tim Bailey for coordinating the S.O.A.P. project. Participants: President Mitch Simmons, Tim Bailey, Dale Jones, Charles and Margaret Lassiter, Sally Platt and Rene Lanier.
