At the Marietta Middle School, there is a class of special needs students which has benefited greatly from having their own garden outside their classroom door. The students plant fruits and vegetables, harvest and eat them, enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, and learn responsibilities of taking care of the garden. Our club has been involved by building raised garden beds which provide accessibility to wheelchair bound students. Now we are providing a picnic table which will be modified to provide a sensory experience for some students who respond well to this stimulation. Also, we are purchasing landscaping materials like pavers and landscape rocks to facilitate movement around the garden and improve its appearance.
