Raised Garden Beds for Special Needs Students

At the Marietta Middle School, there is a special needs class which utilizes plantings to develop their motor skills, and improve communication, planning ability and physical dexterity. By allowing students to plant flower and vegetable beds, they have the opportunity to produce vegetables and flowers which can be shared among their classmates and with others. The Rotary Club of Marietta Metro provided three of these raised garden beds. They were built to accommodate wheelchair access and had casters which allowed them to be used outdoors on pretty days but rolled inside the builidng when the weather was inclement. The flower beds were constructed with materials and in a way to allow them to be used for several years.
