We participated in a S.O.A.P. initiative (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution). This is a program where bars of soap are distributed to local hotels with a phone number affixed to each one for those being trafficked to call for help. We prepared and delivered 1000 bars of soap for distribution in the Atlanta area.
Several events were planned which were cancelled because of the COVID crisis. Our hope is that when life returns somewhat to normal regarding the ability to interact, we will be able to continue with our plans. One event planned was to be held to educate the public about the dangers of human trafficking. The West Cobb YMCA was to host a seminar at their facility on October 22 and Susan Norris of “Saving Hope” was to speak. Other programs are planned including with Interact clubs.
At the Junior League meeting on Tuesday, September 10, the guest speaker was First Lady Marty Kemp, who has a Stop Human Trafficking initiative called the Grace Commission. We are investigating ways to support her initiative. Several Rotary clubs in our disgtrict are joining together to support district-wide efforts. A major focus will be on major sports events held in the Atlanta area.
